The Wheeling Fire Department responded to a structure fire Tuesday morning at 13 Ohio Street on Wheeling Island.

Around 7:07 a.m., the county 911 center received the initial call about a fire in the kitchen area of a duplex.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke in the area. Fire was reported on both the first and second floors, with flames extending into the roof. Significant damage occurred in the rear of the duplex and on both floors.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The response included B Platoon personnel from Engine Co. 2, 4 and 5, Rescue 1, Ladder 1, and Squad 2.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
