One person is facing criminal charges after a vehicle pursuit this weekend by the Wheeling Police Department.
Around 4:20 a.m., Sunday, officers patrolling Wheeling Island made a traffic stop at Zane Street and South York Street. When officers approached the car, the driver appeared to be impaired. Police then attempted to have the driver step out of the vehicle, however, he refused and sped away.
The suspect led police on a chase on I-70 East through the Wheeling Tunnel to Exit 2A where he crashed into the guardrail and fled on foot. Later, police executed a search warrant and located the suspect at a residence on Bethany Pike where he was arrested and taken into custody.
36-year-old Raymond Nelson Drake of Wheeling is charged with fleeing, possession with intent to deliver cocaine and marijuana, entering without breaking and destruction of property.
During the investigation, police were able to confiscate roughly 184 grams of crack cocaine and 108 grams of marijuana. Drake was taken to the Northern Regional Jail by police.
