Wheeling Military Banner Program Introduced

Representatives from the City of Wheeling, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars gathered to introduce the Wheeling Military Banner Program, a 501c3 organization that salutes veterans by creating and displaying military banners in various locations within the City. The announcement was made Thursday morning at the Gold Star Memorial at Heritage Port.

The program is open to those who are currently serving and to those who have served in the military. The one-time cost to participate in the program is $125 and includes a 24” x 36” double-sided banner; the bracket and mounting for the banner to be displayed; and a web presence on the Wheeling Military Banner Tribute website at www.troopbanners.com/wheeling. The banners will be displayed in Wheeling from Memorial Day to Veterans Day for years to come.

“The Wheeling Military Banner Program is a great way for people to honor loved ones who have served or are serving this country. Wheeling is home to many veterans, and we look forward to acknowledging them in this way,” said Mayor Denny Magruder, noting Tim and Chris Connell of Weirton established the military banner program in the Northern Panhandle more than 10 years ago and they have been instrumental in the development of Wheeling’s program.

Applications for Wheeling’s Military Banner Program are available by visiting https://troopbanners.com/wheeling/wheeling-Military-Banner-Application.pdf. The form, a quality military photograph and a check for $125 made payable to the Wheeling Military Banner Program should then be dropped off at one of the following locations: Ohio County Public Library, 52 -16th Street, Wheeling; Howard Long Wellness Center, 800 Medical Park Road, Wheeling; or the Fitzsimmons Law Firm, 1609 Warwood Ave., Wheeling.
