The Wheeling Arts and Cultural Commission has partnered with WesBanco Arena to display temporary murals that were created by several talented artists earlier this year. The exhibit, which is comprised of 10 4x8 murals, will be on display in the lobby of WesBanco Arena beginning Friday, Oct. 21. The exhibit will remain open through Dec. 8.
This exhibit is a culmination of a live painting event that was held in May 2022 at Clientele Art Studio called Crossroads. The event, organized by Wheeling Arts and Cultural Commission member Logan Schmitt, encouraged artists and community members to come together to watch art being created in real-time. Ten artists participated in this inaugural event: Natalie Kovacs, Morgan Wiedebusch, Liz Pavlovic, Vondel Bell, Amanda Carney, Alex Wright, Luke Novel, Mindi Yarbrough, Zane Miller and Schmitt.
The goal of the mural project was to make public art more accessible by creating murals that could easily be moved around to different locations throughout town. The first stop will be to WesBanco Arena where patrons will be able to view all 10 murals.
“A big goal of the Crossroads event was ultimately to bring art to the people of Wheeling outside of gallery walls, so I’m very excited to see these awesome murals out in a public space where they’ll be seen by so many. I’m so thankful to WesBanco Arena for hosting these installations,” said Logan Schmitt, artist and Wheeling Arts and Cultural Commission member.
WesBanco Arena was identified as an ideal location for the exhibition, given its high visibility during events and free public access throughout the week.
“For us, it was a no-brainer to have the pop-up art exhibition be housed at WesBanco Arena,” said Sonya Fedorko, director of marketing and advertising at WesBanco Arena. “There are a lot of talented artists here in Wheeling, and we’re happy to have them on display here at the arena.”
Those who would like to view the murals can visit WesBanco Arena Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., or during special events from Oct. 21 through Dec. 8. In addition to the murals, WesBanco Arena is home to the OVAC Hall of Fame Museum.
