The application deadline for the City of Wheeling’s Love Your Neighborhood mini grant program is quickly approaching, but there is still time to submit ideas that will help improve the Friendly City.
The deadline to apply for project funding is Sept. 30, extended from the initial deadline of Aug. 31. Applications and additional details are available in the City Clerk’s office, 1500 Chapline St., or can be found online at https://www.wheelingwv.gov/departments/CityClerk/LoveYourNeighborhood.
Approved by City Council in July, the Love Your Neighborhood mini grant program will offer up to $30,000 city wide to help citizens to beautify neighborhoods. Each ward will be eligible for $5,000. However, if no applications are submitted from a specific ward, the City reserves the right to distribute monies to other projects in other wards. All applications will be scored by an Application Review Committee.
The purpose of this mini grant program is to empower residents to carry out their own vision for a cleaner, greener and healthier neighborhood. The City of Wheeling encourages resident leaders to show their neighborhood pride by proposing projects and initiatives that will enhance, beautify and revitalize their communities. City Clerk B.J. Delbert encourages those with an idea to improve a neighborhood to submit an application.
“Things that are eligible include - but are not limited to - a public art project, litter pick up days and landscaping. The projects will address a goal shared by community members,” she said.
Over the last several years, Council has been focused on improving the City’s residential neighborhoods and this program is another way to make a difference in the residents’ quality of life.
