A Building Permit is a document that shows that you have completed all of the requirements set forth in the building code and city ordinances for beginning work on your construction project. If you hire a contractor to do your work, the contractor is responsible for completing the paperwork for the building permit. Once the paperwork has been filed, your project plans have been reviewed for code compliance, and the permit fee has been paid, the permit is issued by the Inspection Department. It is then displayed at the work site until the work has been completed.
A building permit can be applied for at the City of Wheeling Inspection office, room 305, City - County Building. If you decide to undertake the project yourself, you will need to complete the required paperwork.
