Summer is a time to have fun with friends, explore the world and try new activities!  The City of Wheeling Parks & Recreation Department offers you plenty of summer options. Check out the different programs and facilities that we have to offer. We want to make this summer the best ever, but to do so, we need you! Get out and enjoy your pools and playgrounds. Register for a camp or program. It will be a summer of fun you’ll always remember!  


Swimming

Keep cool this summer at any of our city pools located at 36th Street in South Wheeling; Garden Park in Warwood; Bridge Park on Wheeling Island; and Grandview Pool in Wheeling Heights.
They are a great place to be in the sun, catch a tan, and best of all is the price! $2 for adults, $1 for children (6-12), and kids under 5 get in free!  Opening day is Sunday, June 1st with daily hours of Noon - 6 P.M. The city will operate the concession stands and certified lifeguards are always on duty. 

The City of Wheeling offers one of the best Learn-To-Swim programs in the Tri-State area.  The cost is a nominal $10 - now that’s a bargain you can’t pass up! Sessions are open to children ages 3 and up. Each session is scheduled to last for two weeks and runs Monday - Friday.
We offer classes from beginners to advanced swimming levels. There will also be pre-school classes for children 3 - 5 years old (a parent must accompany child into the water).The class is 11:00-11:30 am. The pre-school class does not need to attend test. The classes are taught by qualified Red Cross Water Safety Instructors and lifeguards. For more information regarding Pool Passes, Family Fun Nights, and Evening Swims, please visit City pools


Camps

Baseball Camp-The camp runs from June 9-12 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm at I-470 Complex-Field 3 (Rain Makeup Day-June 13). Campers will receive a t-shirt. Players of all ability levels will be challenged with specific skill instruction and drill work. Drill progressions will be focused on developing good habits while improving overall baseball skills. The camp will instruct on the skills of pitching, hitting, catching, fielding, and baserunning.  Please wear proper clothes, shoes, and bring equipment (ie: glove, bat, etc.) Fee-$40/resident   $45/non-resident

Basketball Camp-This basketball camp is for boys and girls and runs July 28-July 31 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm at Highlands Sports Complex. In our 46th season, our basketball camps are recognized as some of the finest in the tri-state area.  There will be instruction, games, and contests in each grade level. Fee-$40/resident   $45/non-resident

Bowling Camp-The camp runs July 21-25 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at Dirty Dog Lanes. The camp will focus on bowling basics and fun.  The camper will receive a t-shirt, instruction, games, and a pizza party on the last day.  Shoes and balls provided.  Fee-$40/resident   $45/non-resident

Fastpitch Softball Camp-The camp runs from June 16-19 – 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm at I-470 Complex-Field 3 (Rain Makeup Day-June 20). Campers will receive a t-shirt and instruction on the fundamentals of fielding, base running, hitting, and fast pitch.  Please bring everything you would need to practice and compete.  What to Bring: Running/Turf Shoes, Cleats, Softball 

Glove, Bat, Batting Gloves, Helmet, Catcher’s Gear (if applicable), Water Bottle, Sunscreen.  Fee-$40/resident   $45/non-resident

Jr. Lifeguard Camp-The camp runs June  23-27 from 10:00 am-1:00 pm at Garden Park Pool in Warwood. The camp is for children aged 12-14 years old, they must be able to confidently swim across the pool and tread water. A swim assessment will be performed on the first day. The camp offers a first look at what it takes to become a lifeguard. This week you will learn the basic fundamentals of Lifeguarding. Topics and skills include; basic rescues, scanning and surveillance, intro CPR/First Aid, general water safety skills with an emphasis on communication and teamwork! The camper will receive a t-shirt and a pizza party on the last day.   Fee-$40/resident   $45/non-resident

Stem Camp-STEM activities for kids mix elements of science, technology, art, engineering, and math in seamless activities to create the critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and innovators of the future. A STEM activity is similar to a science experiment for kids, but instead involving just science, the activity includes other elements that round-out the study and foster a love of exploration and discovery that children can take with them beyond school into their future careers and lives.  A child interested in STEM topics is a child who will succeed throughout life and have a thirst for knowledge that can't be quenched. The camp is for children 7-13 years old and will be held at the Garden Park Shelter.  It runs June 24-26 from 9:00-11:00 am.  Fee-$35 per child



Family Movie Nights

The City of Wheeling will host Free Movie Nights at Heritage Port.  Bring your blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy a movie under the stars.  All movies begin at dusk.

Friday, August 1st-Twisters (Rated PG-13)
