Wheeling police detectives are investigating the death of a person after a man’s body was found on the shoreline of the Ohio River mid Thursday morning.

Around 9:45 a.m., the Ohio County 911 Center was notified of the body by a pedestrian on the Wheeling Suspension Bridge. Shortly after being informed, Wheeling Fire Department personnel arrived on scene along with police to investigate.

The man’s body will be taken to the WV Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for a positive identification. That process could take several days or weeks. Wheeling Police detectives will work to determine a manner and cause of death.
