                    City of Wheeling West Virginia announces

                         OPEN COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION


                           PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTER

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be a citizen of the United States: 18-35 years of age: high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license. Must become a resident of the City of Wheeling or Ohio County within six months of employment.

SALARY: Starting salary $32,755 plus benefits: $33,768 after successful completion of one year probationary period.

The written portion of the test to be given on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Wheeling Park White Palace, Wheeling, WV. The agility portion of the examination will be given in November. Details regarding the agility exam to be distributed in near future.
Applications may be obtained Monday through Friday beginning August 30, 2010 during the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the City of Wheeling, Human Resources Department, City-County Building, Room 301, 1500 Chapline Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.
A fee of $20.00 payable to "City of Wheeling" is due upon return of completed application. Fee includes cost of study guide.
The Fire Civil Service Commission will be awarding veteran’s preference points in accordance with §6-13-1 of WV State Code. Applicants who wish to be considered for veteran’s preference points should submit a DD-214 or other suitable military documentation with the application. Failure to submit documentation by the deadline date will waive your eligibility for veteran’s preference points for this examination.
Last date to file applications and military verification is Friday, September 10, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.
