Oglebay Shelter Lottery Announced

 

The annual lottery for shelters at both Oglebay and Wheeling Park will be held at the White Palace at Wheeling Park on Saturday, April 3, 2010. All families and organizations needing picnic shelters in 2011 at either park are encouraged to attend. The doors will open at 8:00 a.m. and coffee and donuts will be served.  All participants in the lottery should arrive before 9:00 a.m. to receive a ticket for the lottery.  Only one ticket will be issued per group.
 
Oglebay has five shelter locations. Haller Shelter at Oglebay is located below the swimming pool across from the tennis complex.  Haller Shelter has 24 tables, electricity, a fireplace, and a kitchen with a stove, refrigerator, ice freezer and charcoal grill. This shelter also has restrooms and is handicap accessible. It holds up to 200 people and is available from 10:00 a.m. to midnight.
 
The new Driehorst Shelter at Oglebay is located between the outdoor pool and the lake area. This shelter’s capacity is 80 people.  The Driehorst Shelter has electricity, restrooms, fireplace, charcoal grill and 8 picnic tables. Driehorst Shelter is available from 10:00 a.m. to midnight.
 
Levenson Shelter at Oglebay is located at site one near the Good Zoo.  It holds up to 200 people and has electricity and a kitchen with a stove, refrigerator, ice freezer and charcoal grill.  This shelter also has restrooms and is handicap accessible.  Levenson Shelter is available from 10:00 a.m. to midnight.
 
The Wagon Shed at Oglebay is located near Schenk Lake and the playground.  This shelter’s capacity is 100 people.  The Wagon Shed has a charcoal grill, electricity, is near rest rooms and parking, and is handicapped accessible.  It is available from 10:00 a.m. to midnight.
 
Hess Shelter at Oglebay is located directly above the Miniature Golf area and is near the lake and playground.  This shelter can accommodate up to 200 people and has rest rooms, electricity, a fireplace and a kitchen with stove, refrigerator, ice freezer and charcoal grill, and is handicapped accessible.  Hess Shelter is available from 10:00 a.m. to midnight.
 
Wheeling Park has three shelters available.  Sonneborn Shelter is located in the hilltop area of Wheeling Park and amenities included in the rental package are 30 picnic tables, restrooms, one load of firewood and use of the kitchen area, which features an open window serving area. A large, adjacent field is ideal for team sports, organized games or a play area for children. Maximum seating capacity is 200. Rental hours are from 10:30 a.m. to midnight.
 
Schwertfeger Shelter is located across from the Stifel Playground at Wheeling Park. Seating consists of 20 picnic tables, three electrical outlets, one cleanup sink, restrooms and a fireplace with one load of firewood. Maximum seating capacity is 200. Rental hours are from 10:00 a.m. to midnight. 
 
The Bandstand Shelter at Wheeling Park is a unique, round-shaped shelter located on the hill overlooking the Stifel Playground and the Good Lake. Seating consists of 6 picnic tables, one electrical outlet and restrooms underneath the shelter. Rental hours are from 10:00 a.m. to midnight. Maximum seating capacity is 60.
 
Phone reservations for the Oglebay shelters can be made beginning Monday, April 5, 2010, by calling
304-243-4060. For the Wheeling Park shelters call 304-243-4085 after 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 3. 
 
Payment for all shelters is required when the reservations are made.
 
Reservations for the Pine Room, Formal Gardens, and the Anne Kuchinka Amphitheater at Oglebay are being taken by calling 304-243-4060.
